In the tri-state area, DJ rates can range from a few hundred dollars to over $5,000, depending on the timeframe, talent, emcee skills, planning, equipment, and—most importantly—experience.  Many lower bracket DJs are just starting out.  The national average for a basic 4-hour, non-wedding event with basic sound and interaction hovers around $750.  Extras like dance floor lighting, TV screens, percussionists, uplighting, photo booths, marquee lettering, sparklers, top-tier performers, and other extravagant setups will only naturally raise prices.
